National Bike to Work Day in Baltimore
Posted by McHenry Row on 12:15 PM
Living in a large city like Baltimore, we are fortunate to have plenty of transportation methods at our disposal - from driving, to walking, to the Charm City Circulator. However, this Friday, one other method of transportation will receive some special recognition. Friday, May 15, is National Bike to Work Day! If you normally commute to work in by car or via public transportation, consider taking the day to bike to work instead! You're probably thinking, "What's in it for me?" We understand, biking takes longer than driving and may require a change of clothing in the process. If you choose to bike to work this Friday, there will be plenty of perks at "pit stops" along the way!
Bike to Work Day is sponsored by the Baltimore Metropolitan Council and 2015 is the 18th year for the event, which promotes public biking safety. Thousands of participants throughout 30 citywide locations will not only bike to work, but will be entered to win a Trek Lync 3 bike! As you cycle to work and network with other cyclists, be sure to stop at one of the 33 "pit stops" along your route. At these stops, there will be anything from free coffee, to snacks, to T-shirts! To view a full list of pit stops, click here. The closest pit stop to McHenry Row apartment homes is at Mindgrub Technologies, who will be offering water, snacks and shirts from 6:30 to 9 AM. Shirts will be given away on a first come, first served basis, so get one while they last!
Besides the free food and swag, what are some of the benefits of participating? Biking is considered a "clean commute," and is in line with the city's Clean Commute Initiative. It also improves the overall air quality in our area. To learn more about the benefits of cycling, click here.
Would you like to be a part of National Bike to Work Day? It's easy! All you need to do is register online and tune up your bike!
